Old Bronco, New Bronco: Comparing This Throwback SUV to Its Original Inspiration
Why So Many People Are Running To Our Itasca Ford Dealership To See It for Themselves
The Ford Bronco is not only one of the most iconic Ford models of all time, but it is also one of the most iconic off-road SUVs of all time. This classic silhouette was brought back by Ford in 2021 after a 25-year hiatus. Still inspired by the original design from 1965, the new Bronco has our Itasca Ford dealership buzzing.
The old and new versions aren’t mirror images of one another, but that’s the beauty of the revival. You’re able to get everything you loved from the original Bronco with some modern enhancements to bring the driving experience up to par with the best you can get in 2022.
How Does Size Compare?
The most noticeable difference between the old and new Bronco designs is the size. The original Bronco was released in the 1960s as a two-door compact build. The size did increase over the years, but it never entered four-door territory – until now.
The new Bronco fits into the midsize SUV category, so a few sizes larger than its original predecessor. The four-door option is perfect for the needs of modern SUV drivers. Even the new two-door version got a face lift, checking in at more than 21 inches longer than the original.
How Do They Compare Under The Hood?
The Bronco could originally produce 105 horsepower from its 2.8 liter inline-six engine. That model had capabilities up to 200 horsepower on a 4.7 liter V8.
The new and improved Bronco comes with two powerful options: a four-cylinder and a V6, both more powerful than the options that came before them. The 2.3 liter four-cylinder is turbocharged to generate 270 horsepower. You can kick it up a notch with an even more turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 that can generate up to 325 horsepower.
With automatic and manual transmission options available, the Bronco has made its full transition into being a modern vehicle which will naturally make it more powerful and efficient than the original.
Feel the difference when you test drive the new Bronco at our Itasca Ford dealership, just a short drive from the Dallas metro area.
How Do They Compare Off-Road?
Many advanced features make the new Bronco stand out when compared to its predecessor. The driving modes specific to terrain conditions are the standout of the bunch. Depending on the trim level you select for your Bronco, you could have up to eight different settings:
- Rock Crawl
For short, you can call them GOAT modes, which is an acronym for Go Over Any Terrain. It’s another reference to the original Bronco, but also a bold statement that this refreshed SUV certainly lives up to.
One thing the original model does have over the newer version is the ground clearance height. The first off-road Bronco had 13.3 inches of clearance above the ground, while the newest Bronco designs have a standard ground clearance of 11.6 inches. This is adjustable with different packages, but right out of the box, the OG wins that one.
How Does Style Compare?
Come in to our Itasca Ford dealership to chat with us about the new Bronco and see it in person. While you will be reminded of the original Bronco at first sight, these aren’t identical twins.
The new Bronco still holds true to the legendary box shape; could it have been named a Bronco if it didn’t? The front is much more modernized in design, but you can see the nostalgia in the round headlamps and vintage badging. Another feature that nods to history is the removable roof panels and doors that allow you to have an open ride on whatever terrain you choose. Add in the daytime lights shaped like the original turn signals, and you have plenty of elements of the original off-road icon to check out.
